The Southern Christian Leadership Conference plans to build a new headquarters on Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, thanks to new leadership and a little help from its friends.

The historic civil rights organization, which has struggled through financial turmoil and board dissension in recent years, is experiencing a renewal under the leadership of President Charles Steele.   Read More

The Wheat Street Charitable Foundation, a development organization set up by Wheat Street Baptist Church, is planning a $100 million, three- to four-year redevelopment of its properties, which are built on 11 acres in and around Auburn Avenue.

Wheat Street will be redeveloping, modernizing and expanding its 280-unit Wheat Street Gardens apartments, a 14-story, 211-unit senior housing tower; two strip shopping centers and other buildings the church began developing in the mid-1960s.
